Tamworth suffered a three-one (3-1) defeat away at Harrogate Town on Saturday, 12 September, despite Brad Milnes putting the visitors ahead inside six minutes at Wetherby Road.

Milnes' early strike gave Tamworth the lead for just ten minutes before Harrogate Town levelled through Braydon Hobson, set up by Jaze Hmami in the 16th minute. Will McGowan put the hosts in front just before half-time from a Lewis Cass assist, and Hmami turned scorer himself in the second half, converting a McGowan pass in the 63rd minute to complete the turnaround.

Slide continues for the Lambs

The result leaves Tamworth 19th in the National League on five points from six games, with a record of one win, two draws and three defeats this season. Their goal difference stands at minus four, having scored 12 and conceded 16, and Saturday's loss means Tamworth have now lost their last two matches, part of a run that reads one win, one draw and three defeats in their last five outings. Tamworth sit 11 points off leaders Boreham Wood, the only side in the division they have avoided defeat against this season, having drawn three-three with them on the road.

Before the trip to Wetherby Road, Tamworth's only victory of the campaign had come at home to newly-promoted Worthing, and Saturday's setback again exposed a defence that already ranked as the second-worst in the National League. Harrogate Town, according to a preview published by the Harrogate Advertiser, arrived having taken 13 points from a possible 18 and having won four and drawn one of their opening six matches, following a 2-0 win away at Scunthorpe United.

Harrogate cover in goal

The Harrogate Advertiser reported before kick-off that manager Simon Weaver was without several first-team players and that neither senior goalkeeper was fully fit, prompting the arrival of Luke Hutchinson on a three-month loan from Bolton Wanderers. On-loan Leyton Orient midfielder Michael Craig had also joined the squad that week and was in contention for his debut.

Tamworth will look to arrest their slide when league action resumes, with supporters able to check the upcoming schedule on our fixtures page. The National League standings show the scale of the task facing Tamworth near the bottom of the table, while the stats page lays bare the extent of a defensive record that has now conceded 16 goals in six games.
