Tamworth FC pulled off a stunning late comeback to beat Worthing 3-2 in a dramatic National League fixture at The Lamb Ground on Friday, August 28. The victory provides a significant boost to their early-season form, lifting them to 17th in the table with four points from four games.
Creaney had equalised for the Lambs in the 53rd minute after Wadham's opener for the visitors just before half-time. Worthing thought they had secured the points when Marquez restored their lead in the 72nd minute. However, Tshikuna struck in the fourth minute of added time to level the scores again. Then, in the eighth minute of stoppage time, Roberts completed the turnaround with a winner that sparked wild celebrations.
The match seemed to be slipping away from Tamworth after Worthing's second goal. The home side had to show considerable resilience to keep pushing for an equaliser deep into added time. Their persistence paid off with two quickfire goals that changed the outcome completely. This character will be vital as they look to climb the standings and close the eight-point gap to leaders Sutton United.
This vital win provides a significant lift after a mixed start to the campaign. The team's record now stands at one win, one draw, and two losses. Their attacking output has been strong with eight goals scored, but defensive issues remain after conceding eleven, leaving them with a minus three goal difference. Manager Andy Peaks will be pleased with the fight shown but will want to tighten things up at the back.
While it was a true team effort to secure the win, the late goal scorers, Tshikuna and Roberts, will grab the headlines. Their interventions in the dying moments turned one point into three. Creaney's earlier equaliser was also important in keeping Tamworth in the contest. The nature of the win, achieved against a team that had taken the lead twice, shows a growing belief within the group.
The immediate focus shifts to building on this momentum. The dramatic nature of the victory should inject confidence into the squad ahead of their next challenges. With the season still young, Tamworth have shown they possess the spirit to recover from difficult situations. Maintaining this level of performance will be key to improving their league position and making further progress. Fans can track the contributions of all players on our stats hub.
