Tamworth's National League Cup campaign ended with a 3-2 home defeat to Everton Under-21s at The Lamb Ground on Tuesday night. The result leaves the Lambs with only one point from their last two matches and confirms their exit from the competition. This latest setback extends a difficult run of form, with the team having lost four of their last five matches across all competitions.

Everton took the lead after 18 minutes when G. Finney finished from a H. Foster assist. Ramell Carter levelled for Tamworth six minutes later, but the visitors restored their advantage before half-time through Francis Gomez, who was set up by Braiden Graham.

Carter scored his second of the night eight minutes into the second half to make it 2-2, only for Graham to fire Everton back in front just six minutes later. The young Toffees held on despite a late missed chance from Graham to extend the lead.

Dave Hughes, Everton's Head of Academy Player Development, praised his side's display. Hughes said.

The defeat is Tamworth's second loss in a row, following a 1-0 league defeat to Woking last weekend. Their recent form shows one win and four losses from their last five outings, including a 4-1 victory over Scunthorpe on 27 October. In the league, Andy Peaks's side currently sit 20th in the National League on 17 points, having recorded five wins and two draws from their 15 games so far. They have scored 25 goals but conceded 32, leaving them with a goal difference of negative seven and a significant 27 points behind the league leaders.

Attention now turns back to the league, where Andy Peaks's side face a key trip to face 24th-placed Gateshead this Saturday 7 November.
