Tamworth suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, losing 5-1 away to Aldershot Town in the National League on Saturday. The result leaves the club 22nd in the table with just eight points from their opening ten matches, a position that highlights the scale of their current challenge.
Aldershot dominated from the outset, with Ben Peart opening the scoring after just two minutes. Michael Efete doubled the lead in the 19th minute before Mo Dinanga added a third on 33 minutes. Efete grabbed his second just before half-time, and Dinanga completed his brace six minutes after the restart to make it five.
Tamworth made four substitutions at half-time in an attempt to change the game's momentum, introducing Owen Dyson, Tolga Kurtaran, Tyrese Handley and Tom Parkes. The changes failed to stem the tide, though Brandon Acquaye did manage a late consolation goal in the second minute of added time, finishing from a Kyle Donnelly assist.
The loss extends a difficult run of form for Tamworth, who have now lost four of their last five league games. They sit 18 points behind leaders Boreham Wood and have conceded 28 goals already this campaign.
Attention now turns to a vital home fixture against Sutton United this coming Wednesday. Sutton currently occupy 10th place, and the match represents a critical opportunity for Tamworth to stop the slide.
